BCCI announces squads for one-off Women's T20 match

Harmanpreet Kaur will lead IPL Supernovas whereas Smriti Mandana will be the captain for IPL Trailblazers.

Attacking batswoman and India's T20 vice captain Smriti Mandhana will lead IPL Trailblazers which includes pacer Jhulan Goswami, Suzie Bates and many popular global women cricketers.

The two teams will lock horns in a challenge match ahead of the first IPL qualifier on May 22 at the Wankhede Stadium. The BCCI had said that the women's game has seen a wave of popularity in the country following the national team's run to the final of the World Cup previous year.

Shedding more light on the objective of the match, for presenting a canvas for Women's T20 tournament in India, CoA chairman Vinod Rai stated, "This is being staged as a well-deserved exhibition to showcase the tremendous depth and capability that women's cricket in India has achieved".

The one-off encounter will have 26 players, which includes 10 global players from Australia, New Zealand and England.

There is great news for Indian women cricketers.

In this regard, the IPL Chairman Rajiv Shukla said in his statement: "The IPL will continue to be as usual". The global stars in the camp include Australia's Alyssa Healy and Beth Mooney along with New Zealand all-rounder Suzie Bates.

"This is being staged as a well-deserved exhibition to showcase the tremendous depth and capability that women's cricket in India has achieved. We see it build into a women's IPL tournament in a couple of years".

The match will kick start at 2.00 pm and will be telecast live in India and across the world.
