Amazon Prime chooses Florida for new Whole Foods discounts

Prime members the new Whole Foods deals start today

Amazon is offering its Prime members even more Whole Foods Market perks following the introduction of a free two-hour delivery service and five per cent cashback on Whole Foods purchases for those with a Rewards Visa Card.

The company said it will also start offering "weekly deep discounts on select best-selling items" for Prime members, too.

Discounts for Prime members will work through the Whole Foods Market app. Amazon says Prime members will sign into the app using their Amazon accounts, and then scan the "Prime Code" inside the app when they check out at Whole Foods. These will be labeled in store with yellow "10% off" sale signs, and "Prime Member Deal" signs, respectively. "With a total of 463 stores in the USA and roughly 1% share of the separated US grocery market, Whole Foods had gained strength since the last summer when it merged with Amazon".

Sustainably sourced, wild-caught halibut steaks: $9.99/lb., save $10/lb.

"There have been gradual steps towards integrating Amazon and Whole Foods".

These in-store savings are not the only way Amazon has been tying Whole Foods to its larger business.

Amazon has more than 100 million Prime customers worldwide and recently announced that it would increase the membership fee for the service, to $119 a year from $99, to pay for all the new benefits it is adding to it.

The companies also launched two-hour delivery from Whole Foods via Amazon's Prime Now service in 10 cities across the USA, with more to come this year, Amazon says.

Amazon has fired another shot across the supermarket industry's bow. Amazon earlier made an announcement regarding the free two-hour delivery to its Prime members from Whole Foods stores and its subscription club with video streaming and fast shipping. Amazon cut prices on many items at Whole Foods upon completing the acquisition previous year, as part of its broader push into physical retail stores.
