The fire at the building at 11 Mareblu was quickly doused following the roughly 1:10 p.m. explosion.

At a news conference late Tuesday, Paul D. Delacourt, the assistant director in charge of the F.B.I.'s Los Angeles field office, said his agency was working with the sheriff's department and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives to investigate the blast. No children were injured, officials said.

"We have confirmed there was no vehicle inside", Bommarito said, adding there was an explosion inside the building.

The explosion led children at a nearby daycare to flee and a bomb squad was at the scene, authorities told NBC.

According to the Orange County Fire Authority, the explosion occurred on the first floor.

McWilliams said she saw two burned women staggering out of the building, covered in ash and soot.

Bomb squad investigators and FBI agents are looking into what caused the blast but authorities said there was no lingering threat, according to NBC.

Authorities say they're trying to figure out whether the explosion was accidental or intentional.

One woman, who had skin peeling on her arm from burns, said, "Take care of my mother", McWilliams said. They were being reunited with parents at a nearby store parking lot.
