Warriors opens title defense with Spurs rout

Kawhi Leonard has officially been ruled out for the Spurs’ first playoff game against the Warriors on Saturday. More

The proof of this was on full display after the team's 113-92 loss to the Golden State Warriors on Saturday. After Saturday's win, he called Golden State's defense in the past month 'subpar'. But the Warriors made it clear early on - unless the back of the jersey displayed the name "Aldridge", they weren't concerned. But Golden State was already locked into the second seed, and finishing the season strong wasn't necessarily a priority.

They switched often in the first quarter, leaving guards like Patty Mills, Dejounte Murray and Bryn Forbes to contend with Durant. But over the course of a best-of series, it's hard to bet against the Warriors. "Aldridge has played more of the season at center than power forward, and the 6'11" big man will be a challenge for the Warriors regardless of who draws him as their primary defensive assignment. It's a bad combination to play defense like that and not shoot at the other end.

Curry has been out of the starting lineup since March 24 with a sprained MCL in his left knee, while Green, Kevin Durant, and Klay Thompson have all sat stretches with their respective ailments and injuries.

"We finally got back to defending the way we have, the way this team has, for many years", Kerr said.

Warriors guard Klay Thompson found his shot and scored 27 points by making 11 of 13 shots.

Kerr though didn't feel the need to worry as he sounded positive following the Warriors 40-point defeat to the Jazz, saying: "'My message is go home, take a day off, enjoy yourselves.' Said they haven't been playing with 'joy'". The Warriors pushed the tempo, harassed San Antonio shooters, punished the Spurs on the glass and shot the ball efficiently.

The Association's postseason gets underway Saturday afternoon when the defending champion Golden State Warriors host the San Antonio Spurs. "But we know, and we intend to show that".

Asked about keeping McGee in the starting lineup, Kerr responded "Probably". "I thought we were prepared, physically and mentally, but I was mistaken".

"A lot of people have [forgotten] what we're capable of", Green said. "We focused on trying to win every possession on the defensive side". They won the first game.

OAKLAND The shots sank into the net almost anytime Kevin Durant and Klay Thompson released the ball.

In the late Western Conference game, Anthony Davis scored 35 points to lead New Orleans to a series-opening win over the Trail Blazers in Portland. Even without Kawhi and even with Pau Gasol playing heavy minutes, San Antonio's best chance of winning this series is to contain the Warriors' long-range attack while making just enough mid-range jumpers to carry themselves to a low-scoring win. Just because they're so talented elsewhere doesn't mean Curry's absence won't be a problem. They (Pacers) played better basketball than us, They came out with a better strategy. Iguodala returned to the game for the start of the third, but Kerr said: "Obviously, he'll get treatment and try to get better".
