US', Allies' Missile Strikes Have 'Enforced Red Line' in Syria

Netanyahu Reiterates Israel's Support for US Decision to Attack Chemical Weapons in Syria

President Donald Trump announced late Friday that a joint US-British-French operation had been launched on Syria, targeting the "criminal" regime of Bashar al-Assad and saying an alleged chemical attack had marked a "significant escalation".

"A combined operation with the armed forces of France and the United Kingdom is now under way".

Trump used the haunting political phrase "Mission Accomplished!" in a tweet Saturday morning to praise the "perfectly executed strike" against Syria. She says the USA was confident that they had "significantly degraded his ability to use chemical weapons ever again". Iran is the key backer alongside Russian Federation of Syrian President Bashar al-Assad, providing military advisors and "volunteer" ground forces.

"A year ago, I made clear that Israel fully supports President Trump's decision to stand firmly against the use and proliferation of chemical weapons", said Netanyahu in a statement on Saturday, "President Trump's determination and Israel's support have remained unchanged". "Tonight, led by the Americans, the U.S., France and Britain acted appropriately", an Israeli official said on condition of anonymity in a statement issued in Jerusalem.

Russian Federation and Syria disagree with Western allies that gas was used by Syrian President Bashar Assad's forces to suppress opposition close to Damascus in an April 7 attack.

The three countries had carried out a wave of pre-dawn missile strikes, hitting targets near Damascus and in Homs province, Western officials said.

In the early hours of Saturday, the US, Britain and France launched a barrage of missile attacks against Syria in response to what they claim to have been a chemical attack by the Syrian government in the town of Douma in the suburb of Damascus on April 7. The Douma attack killed over 40 people, with hundreds wounded by exposure to chemical agents.

The United States reportedly notified Israel of missile strikes against Syria in advance.
