Unnao rape victim's family alleges harassment by BJP MLA's goons

Unnao rape case Live updates: Union Minister Maneka Gandhi breaks silence, says 'will add death penalty in POCSO

Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister, Mehbooba Mufti, on Sunday accepted the resignation of two BJP ministers Choudhary Lal Singh and Chander Prakash Ganga who had allegedly rallied in support of the accused in the rape and murder of an 8-year-old nomad girl in the State's Kathua district. BJP general secretary Ram Madhav, who had held consultations with legislators of the party in Jammu yesterday, had announced the resignations would be forwarded for further action thereby ending a simmering political crisis in the state.

Ms Mufti's People's Democratic Party and the BJP had nearly reached a breaking point after the two BJP leaders participated in a rally on March 1 to protest against the Crime Branch.

The CBI has taken over the investigation in the three cases related to the alleged rape of the 17-year-old girl by Sengar. Mehbooba Mufti as state Home Minister has also dismissed all the cops of Hira Nagar Police Station who have been found accused in the case.

"The first FIR is related to allegations of rape on the MLA and a woman, the second is of the June 2017 event in which the teenager's family accused four people of kidnapping and raping her", it said. Sources in PDP told Mirror that due to Mehbooba's threats to break alliance, BJP's Jammu based cabinet ministers were forced to tender resignations.

She told a Press conference that if the Modi government were so committed towards Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes, it would not have finished the SC-ST sub-plan introduced in the Budget during Indira Gandhi era. "And if PDP and BJP continue to resolve their issues like this, I see there is no substitute to this alliance", he said. She was taken to a temple in Rasana village in Kathua district.

With opposition led by Congress mounting a massive attack, BJP's image has suffered a considerable blow.

He said the investigations had been completed by the state Crime Branch and a charge sheet had been presented in the court.

Raghu, who has made a decision to contest as an independent, had unsuccessfully contested the assembly elections from Krishnaraja constituency in 2013 on BSR Congress Party's ticket. The court will monitor the investigation and asked the CBI to file a status report on May 2, the next date of hearing.
