Unnao rape case: CBI arrests woman who took girl to MLA Sengar

BJP spokesperson Meenakshi Lekhi was accused of being insensitive for her remarks

Meanwhile, a CBI team also visited the hotel in Unnao where the victim is housed under police protection to take her statement.

On Saturday, the CBI got Sengar's medical examination done and also arrested a woman identified as Shashi Singh, who is accused of taking the girl to the legislator.

According to the CBI FIR, Singh has been named as an accomplice of BJP lawmaker Kuldeep Singh Sengar, who was arrested on Friday. Sengar is facing several charges under the Indian Penal Code, including sections 363 (kidnapping), 366 (kidnapping to compel a woman to marry), 376 (rape) and 506 (criminal intimidation).

Refuting the allegations Lal Singh told the media, "When we met people, they demanded CBI inquiry into the case, we had simply put it across being people's representatives".

The CBI detained the MLA at around 5 am on Friday and questioned him for 16 hours at the agency's office on Naval Kishore Road in Lucknow.

An eight-year-old girl was allegedly abducted, drugged, raped, tortured and killed in January.

The family of the Unnao gang-rape victim on Sunday said that some goons of the accused BJP MLA Kuldeep Singh Sengar were threatening the villagers to keep quiet.

"We are very disappointed with the BJP government, following the rape incidents in the country".

Citing a recent high court order, Surjewala said: "In a damning rebuke to the BJP's claims, the Allahabad High Court has unravelled the real truth of the Unnao rape case".

After the meeting, Works Minister and senior PDP leader Naeem Ahkar, who is also the government spokesperson, "appreciated" the BJP support in the handling of the case which had caused fissures in the alliance.

Ganga and Singh submitted their resignations to the BJP's State president yesterday to save the image of the Prime Minister and the party following a controversy over their presence in a rally in support of the accused.

Chief Minister of Jammu and Kashmir Mehbooba Mufti took to Twitter to condemn the inhuman incident of rape.
