Two FL Deputy Sheriffs shot and killed in apparent ambush at restaurant

Suspect shoots through window of Chinese restaurant, killing 2 Gilchrist Co. deputies

Florida Attorney General Pam Bondi said: "My heart breaks with the tragic news of two Gilchrist County deputies that were senselessly killed today while in the line of duty".

The Gilchrist County Sheriff's Office is reeling after two deputies were shot and killed on Thursday.

"... A suspect walked up to the business and shot both deputies through the window", the department said.

When deputies arrived, they found the deputies dead from gunshot wounds, as well as the shooting suspect, who they said died outside of the business.

This investigation is ongoing, with the the Levy County Sheriff's Office, Alachua County Sheriff's Office, the Florida Department of Law Enforcement, and the State Attorney's Office all named as being involved.

No motive is known at this time.

The sheriff's office hasn't released any details about how the deputies were killed, but said on Twitter that the department has "suffered a awful tragedy". Trenton is approximately two hours north of Tampa Bay. No suspects are at large.

Sheriff Bobby Schultz has been on scene throughout the afternoon with his deputies and their families, notifying additional loved ones, and will be speaking to the media at 7:30pm.

"Please avoid the area of SR 26 from the red light to the area of Subway", a tweet from the Sheriff's Office Twitter account read.

A Gilchrist County sergeant told WJXT it was "an active-shooter situation that has ended and there is no longer a threat to the community". "Further updates will be issued later".

"I've offered any state support they may need", Gov. Scott said.

"It is true evil for anyone to hurt a law enforcement officer, and in Florida, we have zero tolerance for violence, especially against the police", he said in a statement.
