BREAKING: The Overtones singer Timmy Matley dead, aged 36

In 2016, Irish-born Matley was diagnosed with stage three malignant melanoma, a form of skin cancer, but had recently said that scans looked "positive" and that the cancer was in "regression". 'We know this news will be as heartbreaking for you all as it is for us.

"I just had a morning cup of tea with mammy and my mam got out this bag and it just had some really sweet little bits in it that I wanted to share", he told his 1,300 Instagram followers.

Cork publisher Michael Mulcahy said he was deeply shocked at the news.

"It is with great sadness we have learned the passing of our dear friend and former member Timmy Matley", the statement said.

"Timmy was 36 and was a handsome guy whose journey from Liam Healy Road in Cork took him to London and the great stages of success that he enjoyed with The Overtones. He was Hi's Most Stylish Man 2014 and was a proud Corkman who loved coming home".

His fellow group members took to Facebook to pay tribute to him.

Matley joined The Overtones, originally called DYCE, in 2010. Their debut album "Good Ol" Fashioned Love' stormed up the charts into the top five, going on to sell a cool half million copies.

In 2016 the group toured with stage show That's Entertainment and then A Christmas Tour later that year, but Timmy was forced to pull out after his skin cancer diagnosis.

The sad news also comes after Timmy had made a triumphant return to the group, and they were all set to go on tour in the summer.
