Silent about things important to others: Omar Abdullah attacks Modi over Kathua rape case

A huge crowd gathered for the march, led by Gandhi, against the alleged rapes of minor girls in Unnao, Uttar Pradesh, and Kathua (Jammu and Kashmir), where slogans were raised against the Modi government.

"We are here against crimes being committed against women, against rapes, violence and murder and the government must act on this". It concerns our women. "We do not want to spend 10 years in discussions without any tangible outcomes", he said.

"Our message to those who are allowing the Unnao and Kathua rape horrors to happen is this - don't try to divide our country on religious lines because that is the work of evil and such people will be shown the door when elections come", Congress spokesperson Rajiv Tyagi told Firstpost. "You would have seen how the requirement of providing bullet proof jackets to Indian Army soldiers was kept hanging for years", said Modi.

Rahul's sister Priyanka, her husband Robert Vadra and their kids also joined the crowd, demanding justice to the rape victims. The parents of Jyoti Singh, known as Nirbhaya, who died after being brutally gangraped in the national capital in 2012 were also present for the demonstration.

Rahul Gandhi reached India Gate to hold the midnight cangle march. Delhi police has barricaded all the routes leading to India Gate.

"It's not about politics".

In Unnao, the attempted suicide by the rape victim on Sunday and her father's death in custody a day later highlighted the failure of the Yogi Adityanath government in acting against BJP MLA Kuldeep Singh Sengar, who has been accused by the victim of allegedly raping her previous year. The incident took a tumultuous turn after chargesheet in the case revealed horrifying details of the gruesome incident.

Jammu has been on tenterhooks since the brutal rape and murder. They demanded urgent action against the perpetrators of two gangrapes-one in Unnao, Uttar Pradesh, and the other in Kathua, Jammu and Kashmir. He said that charges against him were fabricated and that he was open to any kind of investigation.

Meanwhile, An FIR has been registered against rape accused BJP MLA Kuldeep Singh Senger on Thursday at the Makhi police station in Unnao. He asked why Sengar had not been arrested.

The inaction on part of the state as well as Central governments in both the cases has received a major backlash from sections of the society.
