Pentagon Says 'Mission Accomplished' With Missile Strikes On Syria

Syria’s capital has been rocked by loud explosions that lit up the sky with heavy smoke as U.S. President Donald Trump announce

The 15-member council met on Saturday, at Russia's request, the fifth time it has met on Syria since a suspected deadly poison gas attack in the Syrian town of Douma a week ago. The U.S. military says the Barzeh complex in Damascus was a "center for the research, development, production and testing of chemical and biological weapons". Calling the three-nation attacks an "act of aggression" against Syria, Russia has even issued a statement suggesting that retaliatory steps will be taken.

As suspicions strengthened that the forces of Syrian President Bashar Assad have again used chemical weapons, the United States launched a concerted operation with Britain and France.

Haley's comments come days after the USA, in partnership with France and the United Kingdom, launched over 100 missiles at three targets in Syria.

"Bombs won't save lives or bring about peace", Mr Corbyn said.

On Friday night, the US, Britain and France launched coordinated airstrikes targeting sites linked to Assad's chemical weapons program.

President Donald Trump's decision stands to further complicate Syria's already complex civil war, now in its eighth year.

"The coalition strike in Syria is a measured response to Assad's barbaric use of chemical weapons". But the Syrian regime is refuting the effectiveness of those strikes.

Russian Federation also decried the USA -led operation as a failure, saying the majority of the rockets fired at Syria were intercepted by the Syrian government's air defense systems.

Haley warned that the United States was "locked and loaded" if any new chemical attack was carried out in Syria.

Russia, which has emerged as Syrian President Bashar Assad's strongest supporter, previously suggested Israel and Britain were behind the Douma attack and expressed outrage Saturday over the airstrikes.

McKenzie said the strike would "set the Syrian chemical weapons program back for years", adding cautiously: "I'm not going to say that they're going to be unable to conduct a chemical attack in the future".

Russian Federation in November used its veto three times to bury a previous UN-led inquiry which found that Syrian forces had dropped sarin on the town of Khan Sheikhun in April past year.

American officials and their European allies were careful to characterise the attack as a one-off strike created to deter Mr Assad from using chemical weapons again.

With Russian involvement in Syria and Moscow condemning Saturday's allied missile strike, Haley acknowledged that U.S.

The Syrian Foreign Ministry Saturday condemned what it called "the brutal American-British-French aggression. which constitutes a flagrant violation of worldwide law".

The first target included the Syrian Scientific Studies and Research Centre at al-Mazzah Airport in Damascus; the second, an alleged chemical weapons storage facility west of Homs; and the third, an alleged chemical weapons equipment storage site and command post, also near Homs.
