Kelowna Fire Dispatch received numerous 911 calls this afternoon around 1:48 p.m.

"Flames were already breaking through the roof over a garage that was converted to a living space", Rutledge said.

No occupants were found upon the initial search.

Authorities said a man who lived there jumped out of the window to escape. The man's wife was found to have been visiting with her adult daughter.

One occupant was taken to hospital in unstable condition, officials said. One was discovered alive and one was deceased.

The cause of the fire is unknown at this time, and Kelowna Fire Investigators will be at the scene investigating.

No injuries were reported and the Red Cross will assist the family with temporary shelter.

The victim's identity has not yet been released. "Install working smoke alarms on every level of the home and in each of the bedrooms".
