John Oliver's HBO Show Bought Russell Crowe's 'Cinderella Man' Jockstrap for $7000

HBO’s John Oliver Says GOP 'Absolutely Blew It' on Corporate Tax Reform

He did this as a prelude to an offer he hopes Blockbuster management can't refuse - Russel Crowe's jockstrap from the movie Cindarella Man, free of charge. The auction, which Crowe called "The Art of Divorce", was as one might imagine, a cleaning house sale in the aftermath of his divorce.

On Sunday, following a short segment about how the last few Blockbuster stores in Alaska are struggling to stay afloat, the comic addressed these rumors.

Oliver showed a clip from a store manager who remarked how tourists often take pictures in front of and inside her store. Even that sentence is absolutely incredible to say out loud.

"The bad news is, we didn't do it", Oliver said.

"And I really hope the Internet is good enough up there for you to see this in time", he added, "because if we do not hear from you in the next two days, I know a transportation museum in Scranton, Pa".

Last night (April 15), Oliver revealed on his Last Week Tonight show that he had purchased the jockstrap Crowe wore in the film Cinderella Man.

Oliver also nabbed Crowe's vest from "Les Miserables" and his hood from "Robin Hood", among other set souvenirs.

However, these items may not be with Oliver for long.

Oliver kicked off the fun reveal explaining that a few Blockbusters had survived in Alaska long after they had disappeared in the continental USA because of slower streaming services and more expensive rates in that state, but they had slowly died off.

All the Anchorage Blockbuster has to do is contact Last Week Tonight within 48 hours to claim the items! The store is scheduled to open at 10 a.m. Monday.
