Ian Somerhalder cast in new vampire show

Ian Somerhalder will lead new Netflix series'V-Wars

Vampire Diaries alum Ian Somerhalder is set to star in Netflix's upcoming television adaptation of IDW's bestselling novel V-Wars from author Jonathan Maberry. As Dr. Swann fights to find answers and a cure, Fayne begins to rise up the ranks of the vampires.

The 10-episode series will stream on Netflix. In fact, the vampires of V-Wars sound more like the zombies of The Walking Dead than anything close to what Somerhalder played on the nighttime soap. This disease slowly begins to spread through humankind, and society begins to splinter into the ranks of those who are human and those who are vampires. 1-800-Missing creators William Laurin and Glenn Davis will serve as showrunners. Eric Birnberg and Thomas Walden will executive produce for High Park, with David Ozer and Ted Adams for IDW Entertainment and James Gibb for Marada Pictures.

The series was originally announced in 2014 as a straight-to-series deal with Entertainment One. eOne and producers Circle of Confusion are no longer involved. The order comes as another IDW property, the beloved Locke and Key, is awaiting word on a new home after Hulu's surprising pass on the pilot.

Netflix is continuing to bring fascinating, original programming to the streaming service, and we're so excited to see them dip a bit more into the world of the supernatural.

The comic series was written by Jonathan Maberry. Despite multiple attempts to bring the series to both the big and small screen, IDW remains committed to finding the project a creative home.

Somerhalder previously starred in popular series The Vampire Diaries as Damian Salvatore.

If you're suffering from The Vampire Diaries withdrawals, we've got good news for you. He is repped by ICM Partners, Untitled Entertainment and Todd Rubenstein of Morris Yorn. That series ran for eight seasons on CW, concluding in 2017.
