Amid nationwide outrage over the gang rape and murder of an eight-year-old in Kathua, Surat police told TOI on Sunday that an 11-year-old, whose body was found about 10 days ago, had been raped, tortured and strangled to death.

The Surat police has been trying hard to establish the identity of the 11-year-old girl, who was raped and murdered.

A body of a minor was recovered on Sunday from near a cricket ground at Surat in Gujarat.

A five-hour-long autopsy found 86 injury marks on her body, including the private parts, indicating that she was tortured and raped, Inspector K B Jhala of Pandesara police station said. "She had 86 external injuries on her body".

Where the nation is still reeling from the grief of horrific Kathua and Unnao rape cases, yet another similar incident has slapped us with a question raising woman safety, especially children.

In between the process of acquiring justice for the rape of minors, today the body of a teenager girl was found in Surat. However, the identity of the victim was not known yet and none of her family has claimed the body.

He said police have registered a case of rape and also booked the unidentified accused under The Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act.

The police commissioner said the investigation has been handed over to the city police's Crime Branch and all efforts are being made to identify the girl.

The eight-year-old girl, was kidnapped by a group to allegedly drive out her Muslim Bakerwal community, was kept sedated and gangraped repeatedly for days before her head was bashed with a heavy stone. Already the police have announced Rs 20,000 reward for anyone coming forward to give information about the girl.

"1200 posters have been posted across Surat for identification of girl. Samples have been taken for forensic test to ascertain whether she was drugged or not".

According to the latest report in the Unnao rape case, the accused Kuldeep Singh Sengar, an MLA of the ruling BJP, was sent to seven-day custody by a Special CBI court on Saturday, while the medical examination of the 17-year-old victim was conducted at a hospital in Unnao earlier that day.
