Former President George HW Bush moved out of ICU

George HW Bush hospitalized the day after funeral for his wife, Barbara

Former President George H.W. Bush is recovering in the hospital and in good spirits, according to a spokesman on Wednesday. He is alert and talking to hospital staff, family, and friends, the statement read.

Bush was admitted to the ICU on Sunday following a string of recent hospitalizations, raising concern about his health just one day after the death of former First Lady Barbara Bush, his wife of 73 years.

McGrath says Bush is thankful for prayers and good wishes.

Bush fell ill less than a day after the funeral for his wife, former first lady Barbara Bush, who died April 17 at page 92. The former first lady passed away last week at the age of 92 after she chose to seek comfort care instead of medical treatment.

On Monday, McGrath gave an update on Bush's condition, saying he was on the road to recovery. "He's the most goal oriented person on the planet and I would not bet against him". As to whether she was born in Flushing as many sources indicate, or in Manhattan, at Booth Memorial Hospital, we were not able to determine definitively, as we were not there. In 2015, he broke a bone in his neck in a fall, and in late 2014 he spent about a week in a hospital for shortness of breath.

In a tweet posted Wednesday morning, the 93-year-old Bush thanks Houston Mayor Sylvester Turner, the city police and transit agency, Second Baptist Church and St. Martin's Episcopal Church "and really all Houstonians" for "making Barbara's visitors and funeral guests feel so welcomed".
