Ford officially announces Mustang for the Cup Series in 2019

Ford Fiesta review

Following Ford's withdrawal, teams continued to run the Falcon FG X model in Supercars, which was met with immediate success when Mark Winterbottom won the 2015 title.

"Next generation Fiesta ST customers will benefit from innovations developed by Ford Performance for the Ford GT supercar and Focus RS hot hatchback, including high power EcoBoost and Drive Mode technologies", said Dave Pericak, global director, Ford Performance.

"On the wave of our 40th anniversary, we couldn't be more proud to announce that we are now offering the restoration and enthusiast community quality parts and accessories for the "Big Three" automakers - GM, Mopar and Ford", Jeff Leonard, Classic Industries chief executive was quoted in the news release.

"The world loves Ford Mustang", says Erich Merkle, Ford sales analyst.

Speaking with media at the local launch of the Ford Performance sub-brand, Graeme Whickman, CEO of Ford Australia, cited stagnant private sales in that segment as the clear hurdle.

However, at the same time, Ford Australia confirmed it will axe mainstream Fiesta models from its line-up and there's still no sign of any Ford Performance versions of the Mustang, which will be the centre-piece of Ford Australia's return to the Australian Supercars Championship next year.

In fact, the only thing that's better is probably seeing two cars go head to head around the same course - just as these Mustangs do.

"That's what's being worked on at the moment along with all the other technical feasibility pieces". It doesn't obviously preclude us from doing something in the future, but to be competitive and also to bring the vehicle into racing, that was probably the most competitive and reliable way. One is DJR Team Penske, which returns this season as the defending champions.

With the same announcement, Ford also reported Tuesday that it would deploy the model in NASCAR's top league for the first time ever.

Talks to bring Ford back into the Supercars fold started late a year ago.

The deal is another significant chapter in the marque's long history with Johnson, who has been racing under the Ford brand since 1976.

The next round of the 2018 championship will be held at Phillip Island on April 20-22.
