Growing protectionism through higher trade tariffs has put automakers like Ford, which owns manufacturing plants in TN and Gujarat, under pressure to design, make and cater to the domestic market. The new front styling dons a matte-black finished grille and smoked headlamps. While the side profile gets a new set of bigger 15-inch alloy wheels, which are a size up from the Figo's 14-inch rims, the rear end culminates in a jutted out bumper and a pair of smoked tail lamps. The Freestyle also gets roof rails which can hold up to 50kgs of weight. The engine is a 3-cylinder unit making 95 bhp and 120 Nm of torque.

Inside the cabin, Ford Freestyle features a sienna-themed interiors and a dual-tone dashboard.

The engines on both the petrol and diesel models are mated to an all-new Getrag-sourced five-speed manual gearbox, which according to Ford is more refined and lighter than the unit it replaces, and also uses 40 per cent less oil. "The compact utility vehicle is yet another segment created by Ford and will complement our existing portfolio of SUVs like EcoSport and Endeavour", Ford India MD Anurag Mehrotra said. While the diesel variant comes with 1.5-litre TDCi diesel engine as an option that generates 100PS of peak power and 215 Nm of torque. The Titanium variant of the Freestyle gets the same 6.5-inch touchscreen infotainment system which is equipped with Ford's SYNC3 system, compatible with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. The Ford Freestyle comes fitted with the usual array of safety features like ABS with EBD, rear parking sensor, engine immobiliser standard across all variants.

The Freestyle is offered with two engine options. Ford's lineup in India is going to be in line with our promise of bringing value to Indian customers. The Freestyle is beyond that.

"We expect the compact utility vehicle segment to touch 10 lakh units by 2022 in India".
