Epic takes down Fortnite for emergency maintenance

Fortnite Is Getting Portable Forts Shannon Grixti

Fortnite players have been left frustrated as the popular battle royale video game faces "emergency maintenance" which has resulted in downtime and widespread outages beginning on Wednesday (April 11). Unlike PUBG, Fortnite isn't on Steam and on macOS and PC is instead downloaded via the Epic Games Launcher client.

If we talk about this current update, Epic Games has removed the Guided Missiles from the game.

On Thursday however, it seemed that the maintenance rather ruined some aspects of the game's server performance, and users we're struggling to log into the game.

Partly down to PlayerUnknown's roots, the game plays more like a conventional FPS (first-person shooter), with the ability to lean around corners whilst aiming and a greater emphasis on combat and gunplay.

We'll keep you notified if anything changes with the game following this latest update. As a reward, you will be receiving five Battle Stars which will contribute to your overall Battle Pass Progression. Other games being searched Minecraft, Pokemon, Rainbox Six Siege and Fortnite's rival platform, PUBG (PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds).

Fortnite is the super popular 100-player game available on PS4, XB1, PC, Mac, and iOS.

"Next week, we will be granting a pack of Battle Stars to our Battle Royale players and Seasonal Gold to the Save the World players". The intent is to have players more spread apart and teammates closer together since each team of 50 will have their own battle bus.

The outage has been acknowledged by Epic Games, the game's developer, but it said that it now didn't have a timeframe for when the game would be back up.

"We'll have a detailed postmortem of this week's issues, and more information about how we will improve services for you in the future", Epic adds. So hopefully you'll be playing Fortnite without any weird tricks soon.
