Commonwealth Games 2018 England Crush India 6-0 To Bag Bronze In Women

Despite missing out in the gold medal battle against Singapore's Gao Ning, Nigeria's Aruna Quadri has said that he was satisfied with the silver medal than going for bronze at the 2018 Gold Coast Commonwealth Games held in Australia. "They made a decision not to have athletes enter the stadium", Griggs said on Seven on Sunday.

"But beyond medals, we got to finals in major events which we did not near in the last 10 years. We got that wrong". Did we stuff it up?

Commonwealth Games Federation chief executive David Grevemberg said his organisation was monitoring the situation but until the missing Cameroonians broke Australian law it was a matter for them and their team officials. Of course they should've been.

Mr Beattie admitted the speeches were "too many and too long" in the ceremony on Sunday night and said that he should not have talked at all during the event.

Organising committee chairman Peter Beattie said the decision was made to limit the time athletes, many of whom were tired from competition, had to wait outside the stadium.

Hosts Australia won the Games with 80 gold, 59 silver and 59 bronze.

On Monday morning, a contrite Games chairman Peter Beattie apologised for the closing ceremony after athletes were left out of the broadcast, earning a scathing on-air broadside from the Channel Seven hosts. "I wouldn't have come if I didn't have to", he said.

"I felt elated when Jamaican Athletics Technical Director said this is about the first time Nigerian athletes are being professional".

The former Queensland premier did the rounds on breakfast television taking responsibility, saying he will contact Fearnley to apologise.

"It was a shame that the flag-bearer wasn't recognised".

"Unfortunately tonight, the organising committee, together with the host broadcasters, just didn't get it right".

The closing ceremony included live acts by Australian pop stars Guy Sebastian, Samantha Jade, Dami Im and The Veronicas.

"I was one of hundreds of dancers and we had the most exhilarating experience and I'm gutted that Australia missed out on it", she said.

It has not only been a festival of sport, but also shared cultures and arts of the participating athletes from 71 different countries and territories.

Beattie also acknowledged that the formal part of the proceedings was excessive. I was part of that and I acknowledge it.

There was also concern after a large portion of the athletes and spectators left the ceremony before it had finished, leaving the stadium looking a little bare.
