As the ninth day of Gold Coast Commonwealth Games drew to a close, India had managed to bag three gold medals, besides registering a series of second and third place finishes.

India's Divya Kakran won bronze in women's freestyle 68kg. Leigh Howard (SA), Jordan Kerby (QLD), Alex Porter (NSW) and Sam Welsford (WA), who also won gold in the men's 15km scratch race. She won it in emphatic fashion - inside 36 seconds - with Sultana looking relieved when the referee decided that both her shoulders had been pinned to the mat.

On Friday, with Anish Bhanwala's gold, India went past its medal tally at Glasgow.

World No 1 Kidambi Srikanth also entered the semi-finals with a 21-15, 21-12 win over Singapore's Ryan Ng Zin in the men's singles match.

In comparison, West African neighbours Nigeria is the highest placed West African team in 10th place having amassed 16 medals, comprising six gold, five silver and five bronze.

Mary Kom had previously had the honour of bearing the Queen's Baton during the opening ceremony for the 2010 Commonwealth Games in New Delhi, despite the fact that women's boxing wasn't a part of the event at that time.
