Castlevania: Grimoire of Souls Announced For iOS

Castlevania Grimoire of Souls for iOS

While this could have been much, much worse, it's another reminder that Konami really doesn't seem to be interested in releasing a significant new Castlevania title for consoles.

Konami has introduced a new project for smartphones titled Castlevania: Grimoire of Souls, which will be coming to iOS devices in Japan sometime this year. SystemExhilarating battles where up to four players can cooperate. But Genya Arikado receives a letter that tells of an end to this new peace. The words "The Grimoire has run wild and Count Dracula will be resurrected" are written inside, triggering a quest to discover the author and solve the mystery.

Castlevania: Grimoire of Souls is now exclusive to iOS devices and has a to-be-determined release date. But someone is intent on disturbing that peace, sending the main character, Genya Arikado, on a long and risky journey, fraught with enemies and mysteries.

A mysterious person from a secret division of the Japanese government. He's flanked by Lucy, a researcher who's partnered with Genya.

At this point we'd be shocked if Konami ever committed to making another big, or even medium, budget Castlevania game on consoles. These include legends such as Alucard, Shanoa, Maria Renard, Charlotte Aulin and, of course, Simon Belmont. There will also be a four-player boss rush mode, as well as four-versus-four competitive multiplayer. I get that. But a well done side-scrolling Castlevania title for Switch, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One would do wonderful well I assume.

Like Metal Gear Survive, Castlevania: Grimoire of Souls looks like a departure from the series norms, but we'll have to wait and see if this game is more of a success. "You can use charming characters of successive devil castle, centering on two people", the site notes, hinting at the co-op aspect of the game.
