Abu Salem denied parole to get married

Abu Salem was first married to Mumbai-based Sumaira Jumani and later linked to actor Monica Bedi who was extradited with him from Portugal

As per reports, the Navi Mumbai commissioner has rejected parole application of 1993 Mumbai blasts case convict. However, the divisional commissioner of Konkan on Saturday rejected Salem's application citing security concerns.

Salem, who is now serving a life sentence for his involvement in the 1993 Mumbai blasts, had written to jail authorities on February 16, seeking parole to marry Mumbai-based Sayed Bahar Kausar alias Heena. In June 2015, Kausar had submitted an application through her lawyer Farhana Shah in the special Terrorist and Disruptive Activity (TADA) court, which was hearing the blasts case, stating that she wanted to marry Salem. The plea for parole mentioned Mohammed Salim Abdul Razak Memon and Mohammed Rafique Sayyed, believed to be his cousins, as guarantors.

The Terrorist and Disruptive Activity (TADA) court had past year sentenced convicts Karimullah Khan and Abu Salem to life imprisonment in the case. The prosecution has sought a life sentence for the gangster, who is already in jail for the murder of builder Pradeep Jain. Salem, along with actress Monica Bedi, was extradited in 2005 from Portugal and he escaped the death sentence only because one of the clauses in his extradition treaty with the Portuguese government was a guarantee that he would not be hanged.

"We have got a letter stating Salem wants a 45-day parole to get married on May 5".

It may be recalled that a 26-year-0ld woman, apparently it was Heena herself, had approached Salem in the jail in early 2015 and shows interest in marrying him.

Salem's offer to marry the woman comes eight months after the CBI-investigating the 1992 Mumbai serial blasts case - had told the TADA court here that the photograph that showed the two together appeared to be a morphed one. Bahar had threatened to commit suicide if she was not allowed to marry Salem and had moved an application to the effect in court. Incidentally, in 2014, Salem and Kausar had claimed that they had married each other during a train journey for a court appearance in Uttar Pradesh.
