3 killed as Afghan children set off unexploded mortar round

In Afghanistan, thirty-five Taliban fighters have been killed and forty others wounded in USA airstrikes in Balkh Province.

Afghan officials are reporting that six people were killed and several others injured after a vehicle bomb detonated in the Helmand province on Saturday.

The conflicting casualty reports could not immediately be reconciled as is common in the aftermath of such attacks.

Attaullah Khogyani, the provincial spokesman for Nangarhar, said three women were among those killed and two women and a child were injured in the attack.

The ambush on Kamaruddin Shekeib's convoy also seriously wounded Shekeib's spokesman, said Mohammad Naser Ghyrat, the Logar provincial council chief.

At least eight militants, affiliated to terror outfit Taliban, have been killed during a clash between the Afghan forces and the Taliban militants in Afghanistan's Heart province.

The Taliban-led insurgency has been on the rampage since the beginning of 2015 when the Afghan security forces assumed full responsibilities of security from the USA and North Atlantic Treaty Organisation troops.
