Vikings check on free-agent QB Brees

With the free agency period looming, this pushes more pressure upon the Saints to get a new deal worked out for Brees in the next couple of days.

One of the most prized free agents in the National Football League this year is starting to see teams step up.

Florio also made a surprise appearance on KFAN Sports Radio on Friday and offered more insight, stating he believes Brees and the Saints are having a "miscommunication" and that it's becoming realistic that Brees could become available.

Momentum for a reunion between the Saints and TE Jimmy Graham is building, NFL Media's Ian Rapoport and Mike Garafolo tweeted Monday morning, roughly a half-hour after teams and agents could officially start negotiating.

The Denver Broncos were not mentioned by name, but they certainly fall under the category of being a team in need of a quarterback. It is now March 9, five days until Brees's contract expires and the $18 million in dead money hits the Saints, and no deal has been agreed on. The Saints obviously would prefer to work out a new contract before then, allowing them to spread out Brees' cap costs into future years. That's how it always has gone with Brees' extensions with the Saints (when he signed days before the franchise-tag deadline in 2012 and days before the regular season started in 2016). As of noon on Monday, anyone can legally call Brees' agent Tom Condon and offer him $30 million a year to leave. Brees may be more of a longshot, but he's worth shot.

"Drew Brees has been the single greatest motivation for me as a player", Strief said. He's missed only one game over the last eight years. You took a chance on me when no one else would.

Strief thanked the organization for taking a chance on him, adding that he was humbled to play alongside quarterback Drew Brees.
