Toys R Us to announce closure of stores nationwide, according to report

Toys R Us Could Close Soon, But It Probably Won't Affect Parents Much

According to multiple reports, come Tuesday a big announcement could come down from Toys R' Us regarding shutting down all stores if there isn't a last-minute save to bail them out.

"From product expertise to in-store events, independent retailers are connected to their customers and their community in ways unmatched by online or mass market", said Kimberly Mosley, President of the American Specialty Toy Retailing Association, in a news release about the survey.

Nothing is finalized regarding the liquidation just yet, but it seems like a dire enough situation that you may want to take a nostalgic stroll with your kids through the Toys "R" Us stores of your childhood before they're all gone.

There's no word as of now on what exactly this all means for Babies "R" Us, but seeing as many Toys "R" Us locations also house the baby gear superstore, this could mean that expectant moms may have to look elsewhere when it comes time to create a registry. A hearing in bankruptcy court is scheduled to be held on Thursday, after being delayed. That Holyoke store will close in April.

The company later announced plans to close around 182 of its stores. Vehicle seats and strollers are marked down by around 20 percent, while toys are marked down as much as 50 percent.

The company also operates a Toys R Us and Babies R Us store across from Colonie Center and a Toys R Us store in Clifton Park that were not included on the list of closures but would be affected by the retailer's liquidation. In a tweet last week, Toys R' Us said they've seen an wonderful outpouring of love and they are still open for business.

The note continues by saying "as hard as it will be to loose your toy store my staff will lose their jobs".
