Raspberry Pi Model B+ arrives just in time for Pi Day

Add to that support for Power over Ethernet with the addition of a HAT, and for connectivity alone this board is worth the upgrade.

Aside from that, the Raspberry Pi 3 Model B+ comes with support for power over Ethernet and has improved network and USB mass-storage booting. It is not gigabit, but it should peak at 37.5MB/s so is more than enough to handle any 1080P file, and quite possibly the CPU should handle 4K media playback.

"The new product is built around BCM2837B0, an updated version of the 64-bit Broadcom application processor used in Raspberry Pi 3B", it said.

The Raspberry Pi Foundation has unveiled the Raspberry Pi 3 Model B+. It is available immediately. The latest Model B+ may be purchased from the Raspberry Pi Foundation for $35.

Further, the Raspberry Pi 3 Model B+ supports Bluetooth 4.2, Bluetooth Low Energy, and dual-band wireless local-area networks at 2.4GHz and 5GHz. Like its previous models, this Raspberry Pi also comes with a set of upgraded features. Also, the existence of dual-band Wi-Fi on a Raspberry Pi could be a good sign that 2.4 GHz's reign of terror over IoT is coming to an end. But this is still over three times faster than the 10/100 Mbps speeds provided by the previous Raspberry Pi board computers. The chip runs at 1.4GHz, which throttles down to 1.2GHz only once temperatures exceed 70 degrees Celsius. You'll find Bluetooth 4.2 in the new model and Gigabit Ethernet over a USB 2.0 connection.

"The new board has faster processing, faster-wired networking and improved wireless connectivity; and with modular compliance certification and the same extraordinary support provided through communities and forums, users can learn, create and bring products to market faster than ever before". And similar to the Pi 3 Model B, it costs $35 - while the previous model is now on sale for $5 less through some outlets.

Although Raspberry Pi Foundation is selling a new device, the company will continue to offer earlier models. It must be noted that the Raspberry Pi 3B+ consumes "substantially more power than its predecessor", and thus a high-quality 2.5A power supply is recommended.
