OnePlus 5T gets Android 8.1 Oreo beta, gaming mode and more

After rolling out Android 8.0 Oreo update for its OnePlus 5 and OnePlus 5T smartphones earlier this year, OnePlus has now started rolling out Android 8.1 Oreo beta update for both the phones. It's also worth noting that this update brings support for OP5T users to migrate application backup data using the OnePlus Switch app.

OnePlus 5T is getting Android 8.1 Oreo update with OxygenOS open beta version 4, according to a blog post by the company.

OnePlus brings out a new beta program for OnePlus 5 and 5T smartphones. Please remember that this is beta update and builds like this are sometimes not as stable as our official OTAs.

Alongside the Android 8.1 Oreo update, the update comes with February security patch as well, which brings a range of new features to the OnePlus 5T. The update log includes a new auto pick up gesture, where a user can answer an an incoming call by simply raising the phone.

This new beta is available for the OnePlus 5 and 5T right now, and can be downloaded at the link below. It adds new optimisations in gaming mode as well for a more immersive gaming experience, along with power-saving and pausing adaptive brightness when a user is in this mode.

The OnePlus 5T update is beta software and the company warns these builds are not as stable as their official OTA, so users should keep that in mind before switching to this version of the OS. It will basically allow users to switch between devices seamlessly. OnePlus also actively maintains a forum, where key announcements are made and feedback is taken. A quick look at the replies in the forum thread for this Open Beta shows that users find the Fruit Phone X-like gesture navigation to be much improved. There is no word from OnePlus regarding the older phones' 3/3T 8.1 updates as they are on Android 8.0 already. The company is known for taking user feedback strongly, and issues many of its updates and software-based features based on requests by users.

In addition to this, the Open Beta 4 update rolls out the gaming mode to the OnePlus 5T.
