Mario Tennis Aces Pre-Launch Tournament Announced

Direct Leaks: Japanese retailer reveals Mario Tennis Aces characters, release dates and more

The direct, which featured a large portion of Mario Tennis Aces went over the various additions to the first entry for the Switch.

Yoshiaki Koizumi (producer for Super Mario Odyssey) led the way for this Direct with a few 3DS announcements.

Playstyle categories were also revealed in the presentation. The cover art and new screenshots also confirm the presence of Yoshi, Peach, and Rosalina - as if that was ever in question. Commence battle in the story mode, or against friends via online play. That sounds super harsh, but luckily, you can deflect zone shots with a block, a defensive gesture that protects your racquet from any damage. A broken racket will result in a K.O. You also have Zone speed, which will slow down time for a short while.

However, you're not completely helpless if you're on the receiving end of a Zone Shot.

All those moves consume energy from a gauge that slowly fills up over the course of a rally. Many different trick shots, strategies, and ways to play were featured in the trailer that you can watch yourself below. The rewards for participating in the tournaments are well worth it, since they include special in-game outfits and even additional characters.

Once a character's meter is full, they can perform a special shot, which has the potential to break an opponent's racket in one fell swoop. It can be blocked, however, so be careful of a counter strike.

Mario Tennis Aces will be released on June 22nd.

The game can support up to four players in local and online multiplayer mode.

It is being reported that, earlier today, Japanese retail website Rakuten Books posted a selection of listings for upcoming Nintendo proucts that have yet to be given official release dates.

Mario Tennis Aces will release for Nintendo Switch on June 22.

What else are you excited for in Mario Tennis Aces? Who knows...we might even actually get an update on that still mysterious Pokemon Switch title or some kind of indication that a new Smash Bros. game is coming.
