Manchester City ready to end move for Shakhtar's Fred

Manchester City are prepared to pull the plug on a summer deal for Shakhtar Donetsk midfielder Fred.

"City had appeared in pole position to land Fred this summer after being unable to complete a deal for the Brazilian in January".

While a deal isn't impossible it is now rated as unlikely, and fresh reports claim that Manchester United could instead sign Fred, continuing their recent habit of signing City targets.

The race to sign Fred in the summer seems to be setting up nicely now, and Manchester United will surely take heart from Palkin's comments. The FC crew discuss David Silva's starring performance against Stoke, arguing his consistency in Manchester City's midfield is unmatched.

"He's ready for the next stage, because as well as being good, he's also very professional".

"I would like him to have one more year in our team, but he is ready for a stronger league".

With nine Premier League games left Manchester City have an opportunity to break the records for most points and most goals scored in Premier League history.

Now, Fred has told ESPN Brasil that interest from City did exist in January, and still exists to this day as they attempt to lure him to the Etihad Stadium this summer.

Fred has been with Ukrainian giants Shakhtar since 2013 and displayed a remarkable level of consistency over the course of five seasons.

"[Pep] Guardiola did not talk to me, but there were people from City who talked to my agent".

So that suggests Manchester United have expressed their interest in the 25-year-old, which would make sense considering their need for a midfielder.

Fred has also made it clear that a move to the Premier League would aid his development as a player. "It is the best league in the world, I have no doubt, and I believe that my football would evolve", he added.
