Kim Jong Un Wants a Peace Treaty With Donald Trump

Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull speaks with Donald Trump

"Therefore, we request that the two countries, U.S. and North Korea, use this summit meeting to find the correct path to reconciliation and peace", Ra told the WCC.

Abe is scheduled to meet Suh on Tuesday morning to hear about what went on at the Pyongyang talks. Last year, Hirono wrote to Trump to urge him to fill the ambassadorship, and several other positions that are critical to finding a diplomatic solution to de-escalate tensions with North Korea.

Secretary Tillerson also said it would take "some weeks" to arrange the meeting. If talks progress to the point of considering replacing the armistice that ended Korean War hostilities on July 27, 1953, with a peace treaty, as China is a party to that agreement, it could be invited to join. Ahead of Trump's decision to accept Kim's offer of talks, Pyongyang agreed to pause its nuclear and missile testing, but made no commitment to halt its research and development on ballistic missiles - which is hard, if not impossible, for the Americans to trace.

However, it would allow Kim and Trump to meet without travelling far from either of their respective security forces or to be seen kowtowing in an "enemy" capital. But Deputy White House spokesman Raj Shah said on Sunday that no additional conditions are being stipulated.

-North Korean summits, according to the South Korean envoy, who is visiting Tokyo to brief Japanese officials on his Pyongyang trip. They said: "We pray that this momentum will not be reversed by the unwise resumption of threatening military exercises, and that the drums of war will be silenced". The Winter Olympics provided the venue for contacts between the south and north Korean countries.

Rhetoric in the North's state media has been tame, however, compared to threats a year ago that went as far as saying Pyongyang would fire missiles into the vicinity of the US territory of Guam if provoked.

"I think North Korea is going to go very well, I think we will have tremendous success..."

The White House said Trump's meeting with Kim would take place "at a place and time to be determined".

Japan has expressed its readiness to assist the process of North Korea's denuclearization by covering the initial costs needed for the International Atomic Energy Agency to resume stalled inspections of the North's nuclear facilities.

Now, in a head-snapping display of incoherence, Trump has agreed to meet Kim, giving the planet's worst human-rights abuser what he most wants: worldwide legitimacy. Trump said Saturday that he believes North Korea will abide by its pledge to suspend missile tests while he prepares for the summit.

"We have a precious chance that must not be lost, not just for this government but also for the nation of the Republic of Korea", Moon Jae In, South Korea's president, said recently.
