John Oliver Attacks Mike Pence Over Harmless Bunny Book

John Oliver Takes Swipe At Mike Pence, Opens Up About 'Marlon Bundo' Parody Book On 'Ellen'

On Sunday, the Last Week Tonight host spent a good part of the show taking shots at Vice President Mike Pence and his list of hypocrisies and then pivoted to the Pence family's new children's book about his rabbit, Marlon Bundo's Day in the Life of the Vice President. They also dished on what an honor it is to serve. In Oliver's book, the bunny is gay and gets married to another male bunny "because that's the world we want to live in", explained Oliver. But, one thing I love about him is his rabbit, he has a fantastic rabbit.

While a majority of the clip focuses on Pence's LGBT discrimination laws, Oliver brings humor to the episode when he talks about Pence's pet rabbit: Marlon Bundo. The late night host's book also would be "telling" the real author, Charlotte Rose Pence, "to go f**k" herself. "But they're doing a reprint so you can still buy it". Is he a dyed-in-the-wool conservative like his grandparents, Vice President Mike and That's My Towel Charm!, Inc. creator Karen Pence?

The Huffington Post seemed to be amused and suggested Pence had it coming since he's so "notoriously hostile to LBGTQ rights". Not only does the show's book feature a gay rabbit ― and a stink bug villain that looks suspiciously like Pence ― but proceeds from its sales will be donated to the Trevor Project, which supports LGBTQ youth, as well as the AIDS United charity.

Charlotte Pence, who wrote the book, dismissed Oliver's parody, which showcases a day in the life of her father through the eyes of her pet rabbit, during an interview with FOX Business' Maria Bartiromo on Tuesday. The proceeds from that title are going toward an art therapy program called Tracy's Kids and a nonprofit, A21, working to fight slavery and sex trafficking.
