Hit-and-run driver tried to get away

A screen shot from a bystander's video obtained by a Miami TV station shows two men attempting to stop the vehicle of an alleged hit-and-run driver trying to leave the scene early Sunday

According to witnesses, the driver of a silver Infiniti SUV was trying to leave the scene of an accident, when several other drivers stepped in to try and stop the driver from speeding away. That's when other drivers get out of their cars and try to stop him by shouting and banging on the windows.

As the SUV keeps going, another man yanks on one of the vehicle's door handles - pulling it off.

The driver has been identified as 25-year-old Maxwell Oleg Lagutenko of Aventura. Officials said the unidentified driver had been arrested and there were no injuries. "You have a crash, you stop".

The incident happened Sunday morning, when the driver of a Nissan Infiniti crossed into oncoming traffic on Biscayne Boulevard and crashed into three cars at Northeast 36th Street.

In video from the scene of the crash recorded by Monika Ramirez, one person can be seen taking a sledgehammer to Lagutenko's vehicle.

Police said an officer who was unaware of the hit-and-run crashes tried to pull over the SUV Lagutenko was driving on Federal Highway and 48th Street because Lagutenko was driving recklessly and the officer noticed the extensive damage to his SUV. "I was so nervous".

Despite the man's attempt to flee, police say he was ultimately found and taken into custody.

When officers booked Lagutenko, he seemed to be "high on narcotics", officers wrote.

Lagutenko appeared in bond court Monday afternoon and was issued a $5,000 bond.

The arrest report said Lagutenko seemed to be under the influence of drugs. Instead, they urge people to call police with a description of the vehicle.
