As Guillermo del Toro wins the best director award for The Shape of Water this season and proudly declares, "I am an immigrant", in his acceptance speech, let us take a moment to celebrate this edition of Oscars for being at it political best.

Disney-Pixar's "Coco" has won the Academy Award for best animated feature for director Lee Unkrich and producer Darla K. Anderson, marking Disney's sixth consecutive win in the category. Marginalized people deserve to feel like they belong.

Adrian Molina, Coco's co-director, and Darla K. Anderson, Coco's producer thanked their same-sex spouses, as well as voicing their love for Mexico's "endlessly attractive culture and traditions".

Pixar has won the "Best Animated Feature; trophy nine times, for "Coco", "Inside Out", "Brave", "Toy Story 3", "Up", "Wall-E", "Ratatouille", "The Incredibles" and "Finding Nemo".

Anderson, fielding a question about whether Pixar may one day make a film featuring an LGBTQ character, said "That's a dream", adding that every kind of diversity is important to represent. As for Pixar, Coco continues a now seven-film winning streak for the storied animation studio, and is the studio's ninth Best Animated Feature film overall.

"Coco" was widely considered the front-runner in the animation category, taking home a Golden Globe and sweeping the Annie Awards with 11 wins. The film was competing with "Loving Vincent", "The Boss Baby", "Ferdinand", and "The Breadwinner".

"Well, I don't know if it's possible, but as basketball players, we are really supposed to shut up and dribble, but I'm glad we did a little bit more than that", Bryant said. Thank you, Molly Carter; without you, we wouldn't be here. In English, that means, "Many thanks to everyone and long live Mexico!"
