Fortnite cross-play coming soon to Xbox One but not PS4

Looks like PS4 vs. Xbox One cross-play on Fornite isn’t happening after all

"We are pleased to announce today that, in partnership with our friends at Microsoft, Fortnite will have cross-play, cross-progression and cross-purchase, between Xbox One, PC, Mac, iOS and (in the coming months) Android", he says. the publication "Contrary to what may have been implicit, Microsoft has always been a leading voice in supporting multiplatform games, connecting players through PCs, mobile devices and all consoles".

In a happy incident back in September previous year, a bug in the game caused players from Xbox One and PS4 play together.

Earlier it was reported that Fortnite Battle Royale would be arriving on mobile devices where it would also allow cross-platform play between mobile gamers, PC gamers, Mac gamers, and PS4 gamers.

Are you excited for this change?

Unfortunately though, it appears that cross-play won't happen between PlayStation 4 and Xbox One players. The blog reads, "On phones and tablets, Fortnite is the same 100-player game you know from PlayStation 4, Xbox One, PC, and Mac".

Multi-platform play has been the go to for many game franchises, and has worked out fine.

This is mainly due to Sony, being hesitant when it comes to allowing its PlayStation 4 games to cross-play with Xbox One.

The content and the novelties of "Fornite" do not seem to have limits since it implemented its successful Battle Royale mode.

Funnily enough, Epic had "accidentally" enabled cross-play for Xbox One and PS4 players that was quickly shut down as a "configuration" issue. In addition to the having the full experience, the developer also revealed that the mobile versions of the game will also feature cross-platform support with the Xbox One, Mac, PC, and PS4.
