Fiorentina pay tribute to Davide Astori with home victory [GALLERY]

Fiorentina coach Stefano Pioli paid an emotional tribute to Davide Astori on Saturday

Fiorentina paid tribute to Davide Astori on Sunday afternoon in the first game since their captain's tragic death a week ago.

During the last stages of the game, Benevento's Massimo Coda struck the post, with Fiorentina's new captain Milan Badelj also hitting the woodwork.

It was an emotional day at the Stadio Franchi, as the Viola returned to the field for the first time since the tragedy, beating Benevento 1-0.

As a freaky quirk, Hugo was wearing the No.31 shirt when he scored exactly 13 minutes after the Astori tribute - at 13:00pm on the dot - on his 13th appearance for La Viola.

During the stoppage in play, players, fans, management, and everyone else attending the match in Florence stood, clapped, and sang "There's only one captain".

Tributes were paid before the contest and play was stopped on 13 minutes so fans and players could applaud the ex-Italy global.

Video screens played images of the Italy defender and the mascots wore either Fiorentina or Cagliari shirts - the latter being one of Astori's former clubs.

Flags and banners were displayed throughout the stadium bearing Astori's name, and in the 13th minute of the game, the ball was kicked out of play and the action paused so fans and players could join in a minute's applause.
