Cousins Will Put the Vikings in the Super Bowl

Broncos free agency update Kirk Cousins and Case Keenum buzz

The contract would not only make Cousins the highest-paid player in the National Football League, but also the first to sign a top-tier, multiyear deal fully guaranteed.

Right now, Matthew Stafford of the Detroit Lions is the NFL's highest-paid quarterback at $60.5 million, per Spotrac.

Keenum's ascent in 2017 was remarkable to watch, and hopefully that's the guy the Broncos are getting at a reported $18 million per year average on a new contract. Cousins doesn't want to be Brock Osweiler & end up in a bad fit.

The Vikings have been targeting Cousins for weeks and did not make much of an effort to retain Keenum.

Whether or not you believe in his ability to be great when placed in extremely important games, Cousins is worth the risk for the Vikings. "My family and I will always have a piece of Washington deep in our hearts". Cousins said in January.

The Vikings won the NFC North comfortably, finishing well ahead of the Green Bay Packers, who were without Aaron Rodgers for most of the season. After struggling for the Rams, Keenum thrived last season for the Vikings. Coach Gruden, Bruce Allen, Dan Snyder.

Cousins could have provided an AFC team with a big boost.

Unable to agree on a long-term deal with the club, Cousins signed franchise tag tenders each of the last two years to make market-rate money (about $20 million in 2016 and $24 million in 2017) and push out his first experience with free agency. They didn't, with Washington wanted Cousins to prove his 2015 campaign wasn't a fluke. His camp didn't formally counter an offer that included $72 million guaranteed for injury only.

One day before the league's new year begins, quarterbacks are again stealing the spotlight.

Once Cousins is off the market, McCarron figures to be the next most-pursued player at his position in free agency alongside Case Keenum. So the Redskins moved on at quarterback, trading for Alex Smith, and Cousins became an unrestricted free agent on the heels of three straight 4,000-yard passing seasons for the Redskins.

"It's very important for us to move forward and let Kirk move on if Washington is not a place he wanted to be", Gruden said at the scouting combine. "Obviously, we have to get better there, whoever is going to be the quarterback". Could he have possibly been more productive in Minnesota than he was in Washington?

Kirk Cousins and the Vikings will keep the NFC on its toes and if he can seize this opportunity Minnesota will be one ecstatic sports city.

Cousins will be surrounded with quality weapons on offense, including wide receivers Stefon Diggs and Adam Thielen, tight end Kyle Rudolph and running back Dalvin Cook.
