Brown tells Trump California is focused 'on bridges, not walls'

Trump’s California “War” Zone Visit Border Wall Marines Jerry Brown Beverly Hills

Jerry Brown on Monday invited President Donald Trump to visit the state's high-speed rail construction projects while he is in the state this week to examine prototypes of the wall he wants to build along the U.S. -Mexico border.

He said that California's "prosperity is not built on isolation".

Golden State residents might as well wait for a Democratic president to take office, Pitney said.

"I mean, frankly, if I wanted to pull our people from California, you would have a crying mess like you've never seen in California", Trump said weeks ago, warning there would be "crime like nobody has ever seen crime in this country".

Update at 2:30pm: Protests in the works around President Donald Trump's California visit on Tuesday to view border wall prototypes have been confirmed down south.

However, California - a state overrun with left-wing progressive activists groups and lawmakers - has so far proven to be a problem for the president's agenda.

Brown, who has emerged as one of Trump's most prominent antagonists, asked Trump to visit Fresno and Madera, where workers are building bridges and viaducts that will eventually connect Los Angeles and the Bay Area via high-speed rail.

But, there are also consequences for Republicans.

Brown noted that President Harry Truman used his first trip to California in 1945 to witness the signing of the charter establishing the United Nations in San Francisco, while President Lyndon Johnson met with the president of Mexico during his first presidential visit to California in 1964.
