Will North Korea attack the Olympics? Countries think not

Elise Christie was disqualified in three separate events at Sochi 2014

Last month North and South Korea agreed to march together under an unification flag at the opening ceremony of the Pyeongchang Winter Olympics, which begin on 9 February.

'The North Koreans have been master manipulators in the past.

Trump also said that the danger imposed by North Korea will reach its maximum "very soon", and the reclusive country must be dealt with now, because "past experience has taught us that complacency and concessions only invite aggression and provocation".

Trump also said in his speech that the USA was "waging a campaign of maximum pressure" to prevent North Korea from being able to attack the US with nuclear weapons. Their coach told reporters it was up to Choe to decide whether to compete in the games after watching his condition.

"There is tension between North Korea and South Korea".

Besides the ice hockey squad, North Korea is sending 10 additional athletes to the Winter Olympics - three alpine skiers, three cross-country skiers, two speed-skaters and two figure skaters.

The idea of making all tours in Korea unaccompanied is not new, but gained new traction when President Donald Trump saw retired Gen. Jack Keane comment about the issue on FOX News, arguing the Pentagon should stop sending families there to allow the troops to prepare for possible war with North Korea, according to two US officials.

They are mostly from relatively affluent families and a defection would make their relatives in the north face possible reprisals.

The United States will be represented at the opening of the Olympic Games by Vice President Mike Pence, who arrives in Seoul on Thursday and will dine that evening with South Korean President Moon Jae-in.

Peter Jung, who escaped to China in 2000, told Trump he is now a broadcaster for the US -government-supported Radio Free Asia, which - as does VOA - broadcasts to North Korea in the Korean language.

The North is participating in the Games after its leader Kim Jong-Un abruptly announced his willingness to attend in his New Year's address.

North Korea criticized Pence's pending visit to the Olympics and accused Washington of halting improvements in inter-Korean relations.

The match saw 23 South Korean ice hockey players join forces with 12 players from the North, dressed in uniforms emblazoned with the single word "Korea" over a map of the peninsula.

Tensions spiralled previous year as North Korea carried out multiple weapons tests, including intercontinental ballistic missiles which it has said are capable of reaching the mainland United States.
