White House speechwriter resigns amid domestic abuse allegations

Following Rob Porter's resignation, president Donald Trump took to his favorite medium of communication - Twitter - and addressed the situation.

Trump praised Rob Porter's work as White House staff secretary and said he hopes the former aide goes on to a successful career elsewhere.

"Peoples lives are being shattered and destroyed by a mere allegation", the President tweeted Saturday morning "Some are true and some are false. Some are old and some are new", Trump said. There's no recovery for someone falsely accused - life and career are gone. That has added to Trump's frustrations about the chief of staff's attempts to control him and Kelly's recent inflammatory comments about immigrants, according to two people who speak to the president regularly but are not authorized to publicly discuss private conversations. At the end of the session, according to people with knowledge of his remarks, Kelly volunteered that he had something he wanted to "clarify".

Though Trump frequently vents about senior aides, he is often loath to fire staffers.

Well, since McEnany brought it up, when Savannah Guthrie first broke the news of Lauer's firing and reacted to the complaint against him, in addition to talking about Lauer she also said she's heartbroken "for the fearless colleague who came forward to tell her story and any other women who have their own stories to tell". Most West Wing offices remained dark. "John Kelly knows that he serves at the pleasure of the president, and he will step aside anytime the president doesn't want him to be there". Kelly initially defended his right-hand man before later offering a version of the week's events that puzzled aides and did not line up with the White House's earlier timeline. McGahn's knowledge of the accusations in January was first reported by The Washington Post.

Porter announced his resignation Wednesday after first wife Colbie Holderness released pictures in which she had a black eye. Hours later, a White House speechwriter also stepped down amid accusations of domestic abuse.

Vice President Mike Pence, striking a markedly different tone than Trump, said in an interview Friday on MSNBC that "there's no tolerance in this White House and no place in America for domestic abuse". Sorensen worked for the Council on Environmental Quality, which is part of the Executive Office of the President. He did a very good job in the White House.

Porter told him about the possible allegations because he was concerned that what he characterized as false charges from aggrieved women who were out to destroy him could derail his Federal Bureau of Investigation background check, according to one of the two people briefed on the matter. White House officials told the Post they learned of Corbett's accusations only last night. And after Fox fired popular talk show host Bill O'Reilly amid reports of payouts over harassment claims, Trump called him "a good person". "And literally that was it". One of his ex-wives had a restraining order taken out on him.

Debby Tucker, president of the board of directors for the National Center on Domestic and Sexual Violence, said women are far more likely to be accused of fabricating stories than men. And they came amid rampant White House finger-pointing about who knew what, and when, about the severity of the spousal abuse allegations.

"That's like saying, 'That ax murderer out there, he's a great painter, ' " Biden told an audience of fraternity and sorority students in Indianapolis.
