The Return of Lindsey Vonn

Lindsey Vonn was moved to tears over the memory of her late grandfather. Vonn vowed to win gold in honor of the man she calls her ski racing inspiration at Pyeong Chang 2018

But first, as documented via Twitter on Wednesday, she had to spend six hours on the tarmac for a flight to the Winter Games.

Don't miss a moment of the Olympic Winter Games on Eurosport and Eurosport Player. (Shiffrin has not committed to exactly which races she will enter.) The individual events end with the women's combined, in which she would ski both slalom and downhill. And yes, part of it is the two-plus years she spent dating Tiger Woods. This is her fourth and final games.

"I think there's quite a bit more thinking in slalom, in a way", Shiffrin said. LOL I think that it's by this 24-hour journey. 'I'm skiing exceptionally well and I have a lot of confidence. I have a lot of confidence. I'm very happy with how I feel physically, mentally and on skis'.

"In my opinion, she's the best there's ever been in the modern era", said Bode Miller, the former American star and World Cup overall champion who could ski any discipline well.

"I still don't know how I feel about Sochi", Shiffrin admitted. "As a representative of the Olympic host country, I want to have my best race". My sister was there with me for surgery and really took care of me, putting me to bed and making me food.

But she has won four World Cup races this season, including back-to-back downhills coming into the Games, to close to within five victories of the all-time record held by Sweden's Ingemar Stenmark.

She says one of her motivations for expanding her repertoire is simply having some time on her hands.

"They always look out for me". For all you pooch lovers out there check out @vonndogs on Instagram.

"She's right there (pointing stage left)". And she startled the skiing world by winning a downhill over a shortened course in Lake Louise, Alberta, in December. "She enjoys sleeping a majority of the day". If it wasn't for the injury that came in 2013, she would've easily won more medals.

Off the slopes, Britain's SportsPro Magazine named Shiffrin the ninth-most marketable athlete of 2017, well ahead of fellow US skier Lindsey Vonn (No. 50). Her grandfather Don Kildow built the first ski hill around Milton, then taught his children and eventually his grandchildren how to ski. Here in South Korea, it could be one or two or even more.

"On any World Cup it's hard to predict the victor... but here there's one downhill every fourth year and then it really gets a lot of focus and if there's a prize you remember it longer". I want so badly to do well for him.

"I'm thankful to hear that because that's the way it should be in the olympics and we do have reserve days".
