Terror bid on CRPF camp in Srinagar foiled, but trooper killed

Searches in the area revealed that the militants, carrying backpacks and AK-47 rifles, had taken shelter in a building near the CRPF camp, which was then surrounded. The sentries immediatetly opened fire at around 4.30 am, after which the militants fled from the spot.

Security forces from CRPF Valley QAT and 23 Bn CRPF have cornered the terrorists who have been hiding in a house, which has been cordoned off by the CRPF, said the police official.

Earlier on Saturday, terrorists barged in the Sunjwan army camp in Jammu, killing five security personnel and one civilian.

According to senior CRPF officials, there were two militants. "They ran into the nearby building behind National School", said Yadav.

The officer said that after several hours of search operation the militants were traced in a near by building and accordingly an exchange of gunfire started between the two sides. Ten people, including six women and children, were also injured in the attack.

Police sources said there were an exchange for fire between the militants and security forces.

"We have called our quick reaction team and a team from Jammu and Kashmir Police are on task near the camp periphery", CRPF Inspector General Ravideep Shahi had told India Today earlier on Monday morning.
