A 4-year-old girl who disappeared from her SC home where her mother was found badly beaten was found safe in Alabama on Wednesday and the man suspected of kidnapping her was arrested hours later, authorities said.

A desperate hunt is underway for a missing four-year-old girl in SC.

Around 9:45pm, law enforcement officials in MS said they took Thomas Lawton Evan into custody in reference to the kidnapping.

At that point, the suspect gave the little girl to the police chief, telling them he had to get his ID from the auto.

A desperate hunt was on in Charleston, South Carolina, for a 4-year-old girl who vanished from her home after an intruder forced his way in and beat her mother so badly she had to be taken to a hospital, police said today.

Investigators say they are searching for a person of interest in connection to the disappearance of a Johns Island toddler and a home invasion that injured her mother. "She is a precious little girl". Solicitor Scarlett Wilson, the chief prosecutor in Charleston, say a manhunt is happening to find Evans, and he'll face multiple charges, including kidnapping. The suspect then left the house. Authorities later confirmed that the person of interest in the sketch was not a suspect. She is hospitalized in fair condition, he said.

Two of the woman's other children were at home at the time.

A school attended by two of the children contacted police when their mother didn't show up to pick them up from classes, according to Taylor.

The girl's father is in the Coast Guard and was training at the time of Todd's disappearance, the newspaper reported. The authorities were not able to issue an Amber Alert because there was a lack of information on a possible suspect connected to the incident. He has since returned and is with the mother at the hospital.

The FBI announced a $10,000 reward for information that would lead to Todd's recovery, and a private donation from someone who wished to remain anonymous added another $10,000 to the reward.
