Russian Federation denounces U.S. coalition airstrike at UN

The United Nations Security Council is considering a measure to impose a 30-day ceasefire in Syria.

Tensions have risen between Washington and Ankara in recent months with Turkey frustrated at Trump's forces providing support to Kurdish fighters in the north of Syria.

Syria's foreign ministry wrote a letter to the Security Council Thursday calling for global condemnation.

The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights, which monitors the war, said Deir el-Zour province continues to be tense following the foiled attack and the USA response, and said there were reports of a new mobilization to the area. The Syrian government has repeatedly said it only targets militants.

Meanwhile, the US-led coalition fighting the Islamic State in Iraq and Syria (ISIS) on Thursday reported that it had struck pro-Assad forces following "an unprovoked attack", a rare instance of the U.S. attacking the regime, which is supported by Moscow.

"We believe that we should stand up to plots that aim to undermine the territorial integrity of regional countries", Cavusoglu said. "These attacks must end now", State Department spokeswoman Heather Nauert said.

"The general command of the armed forces holds Israel fully responsible for the unsafe consequences of its repeated, aggressive and uncalculated adventures", it added.

SANA said earlier that forces of the US-led global coalition targeted popular forces that were fighting the Islamic State group and the USA -backed Syrian Democratic Forces in the eastern province of Deir el-Zour.

Russian Federation has gathered fellow Assad ally Iran and pro-insurgent Turkey to broker peace in an effort that's largely left out the U.S.

Four days of ferocious Syrian government raids on the rebel-held enclave of Eastern Ghouta have killed more than 200 civilians, a war monitor said on Thursday. It said the dead includes a medic and at least three children and eight women.

Aside from the Turkish offensive in Afrin, the Syrian government escalated its attacks on two of the largest and most important remaining opposition-held areas, in Idlib province in north-western Syria and on eastern Ghouta, a region near the capital Damascus.

SANA called it an "aggression".

Russian Federation should be particularly invested in mediating between Israel and Iran because a conflict between them risks undermining Russia's policy achievements in Syria, including strengthening the position of Assad.

Earlier, Erdogan said a helicopter had been shot down without saying who was responsible, admitting that such incidents were expected in times of conflict. The event is expected to take place in Istanbul. The official spoke on condition of anonymity because he was not authorized to talk to the media.
