Philippe Coutinho Opens Barcelona Account In Copa Del Rey Win Over Valencia

Barcelona possible Getafe

"I was looking for the goal in the first few games and today I got it and, most importantly, helped the team reach the final".

Barcelona reached their fifth consecutive final to be the first Spanish club in the history to make such an achievement. Barcelona started the second-half on the front foot and thrashed Valencia 2-0 on the night and 3-0 on aggregate to qualify for the finals.

Next up for Barça in the April 21 Copa del Rey championship match will be Sevilla, which advanced with a 3-1 victory on aggregate over Leganes on Wednesday. Sevilla's president suggested Sevilla as the location, an idea the Catalans were not fond of. This is a very special moment for me, my first final with Barcelona.

This put Barca in a commanding position and they booked their place in the final when Ivan Rakitic finished well after more excellent work from Luis Suarez.

"It's a very happy day", Coutinho told GOL after the match. He replaced Andre Gomes at halftime following an entertaining first half in which Valencia striker Rodrigo Moreno was close to levelling the tie with a header that bounced off the crossbar and with another shot well saved by Jasper Cillessen in the Barca goal.

"It'll be hard like all Finals, but it'll also be a great game and we have plenty of time to prepare for it".

When asked how Gerard Pique was after the defender came off in the final 10 minutes, Valverde said: "In the end he noticed an overload and we decided that the best thing of all is that the player rests". Taking a 1-0 lead into the second leg at the Estadio de Mestalla, Barcelona made easy work of their illustrious opponents who have fallen into a poor run of form in recent weeks.

"Of course we want to try to win everything we can, but I don't like to talk about trebles until they happen".

There was also a chance for Jose Luis Gaya but Cillessen, deputising for ter Stegen, produced a good point-blank save to deny our hosts.

Pique looked to be in pain on the bench and Valverde admitted his concerns about the centre-back fitness following the game.
