Mohan Bhagwat's speech being misrepresented: RSS

RSS Chief Takes a Dig at the Army, says Sangh Parivar Can Deploy Faster

Congress president Rahul Gandhi accused RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat of "disrespecting" the Army and those who have laid down their lives for the country. "The Army may take six to seven days to prepare for a war, but RSS can put together an army in just three days, if necessary", said Bhagwat in his address to RSS cadres and leaders in Muzaffarpur.

"This was no way a comparison between the Indian army and the Sangh swayamsevaks but it was a comparison between general society and swayamsevaks", Vaidya said.

"The Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh is not a military organisation, but we have discipline like the military".

Meanwhile, briefing the media on recent terror attack happened in the valley, Defence Minister Nirmala Sitharaman said terror organisation Jaish-e-Mohammad (JeM) was behind these attacks which were being operated from Pakistan.

RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat's controversial comment on the Indian Army's preparedness for a war has triggered outrage among the opposition parties even as the saffron outfit said the remarks were being "misrepresented".

Bhagwat had said that workers of his organisation can be trained in three days if need arises, whereas the Army takes 6-7 months to become capable enough to defend country's borders.

"Mohan Bhagwat's remark is absolutely wrong, I'm pained hearing it", he said. "This exposes the RSS game plan to form a parallel army and shatter the country's unity and create anarchy". "PM Shri. Narendra Modi should clarify his Govt's position over Bhagwat belittling Indian Army.", the Kerala CM added. The BJP, which rules at the Centre and is reportedly guided by the RSS ideology, hasn't yet reacted to the statement of the RSS chief. Terming it as "an insult to every Indian", the Gandhi scion said that the comment disrespects our martyrs.

Bhagwat's remarks were made as a comparison between common people and Sangh volunteers (swayamsevaks) and were in "no way a comparison" with the Indian Army, RSS Akhil Bhartiya Prachaar Pramukh Manmohan Vaidya said in a statement, seeking to douse the controversy.
