Liam Payne reveals the cause of his recent arguments with Cheryl

While Cheryl has been very private about her personal life, she has spent her time here in the United Kingdom, choosing to stay out of the limelight while she takes care of their 11-month-old son, Bear.

Whilst Liam is a devout West Brom fan, Cheryl is (as we all know) a very proud Geordie. "They're desperate to make a go at it, but it's absolutely on the rocks".

'Liam believes they can reconnect though, and he wants her to give him at least a few more months before making any kind of permanent decision about their future.

"Cheryl has always understood he would have to work hard and be absent but the reality is that it's not an easy thing to deal with... this relationship is hanging by a thread".

"She also wants to get back to work so that comes into it as well".

But his jet-setting is thought to have placed an intolerable strain on the couple's two-year relationship, with Cheryl often finding herself at home alone with their baby son. "They hope there is a way forward and that's what they've been discussing". Liam has been away on tour frequently over the past year, promoting his new album, while Cheryl reportedly has stayed at home looking after Bear at their Surrey home. "Everyone hopes they can sort things out but, at the same time, it may be too large an obstacle".

It was reported over the weekend that the couple were holding crisis talks and that Liam had sought legal advice to figure out what a split would mean for their fortunes and son.

Cheryl was previously married to footballer love-rat Ashley Cole, who she divorced in 2010 over his cheating.

Payne, 24, and Cheryl, 34, began dating in early 2016 following the former Girls Aloud singer's separation from Jean-Bernard Fernandez-Versini, with the couple welcoming their first child in March 2017.

The couple last appeared in public together at a charity event on November 29.
