Lexus Once Again Ranked Most Dependable Brand In The US

Lexus topped the survey for the seventh consecutive year.

Lexus had 99 reported issues while Chrysler had 211.

Buick has reclaimed the title as the most dependable mass-market brand after three years of vehicle ownership while luxury marque Lexus again topped the industry, according to J.

The 31-brand rankings were determined based on the number of problems per 100 units reported by some 37,000 owners of 2015 model-year vehicles during the past 12 months. For new auto buyers, the evidence suggests their vehicle won't give them much trouble in the first three years.

Consumers who purchased a new vehicle in 2015 and are still driving them gave their rides high marks, with overall dependability rising by nine percent, the first increase since 2013. J.D. Power said customers complain most frequently about problems with voice recognition technology and Bluetooth connectivity.

"Strong dependability scores not only improve demand for used vehicles, but also are a contributor to higher residual values", Jonathan Banks, Vice President of Vehicle Analysis and Analytics at J.D. Power said.

Toyota Motor Corp., which owns the Lexus and Toyota brands, had six vehicles rank at the top of their segments, the most of any company.

"Improving dependability ultimately supports new vehicle sales and provides a better perception of the brand". Buick, the highest-ranked mainstream brand, was third with 116 PP100 vehicles, followed by Infiniti (120), Kia (122), Chevrolet (124), BMW (127) and Toyota (127).

Fiat is the most improved brand in this year's VDS, with owners experiencing a remarkable 106 fewer PP100 than in 2017. Fiat, Nissan, Ford, Kia and Dodge also showed significant improvements. Winners include the Toyota Prius, which was the top compact vehicle, and the Lexus RX, which was the top midsize SUV.

Audi Q3 is the only model in the 2018 study to receive an award in its introduction year.
