'IT: Chapter 2': Jessica Chastain In Talks To Play Beverly In Sequel

Jessica Chastain Is in Talks to Star in the New ‘It’ Sequel & We’re Already Shaking

The actress has publicly discussed the possibility before, the film's kid cast has vouched for her, and she has an existing relationship with director Andres Muschietti, for whom she starred in his feature debut, the 2013 horror movie "Mama".

Despite the speculation, New Line and Chastain weren't in official talks until recently.

Chastain has been linked to the sequel for some time following its opening weekend, as the Muschiettis mentioned her in an interview with Variety as a top choice to play adult Beverly in the sequel. "I think one of the first things that we noticed when we saw Sophia come into the room was, my gosh, you look like [Chastain]", Barbara Muschietti said. "Anything that they're doing I want to be a part of, so I hope we can make it happen". The sequel was greenlit quickly after release.

There is nothing Hollywood loves more than a sequel and the latest one on deck is a sequel to last year's smash hit It. In the book, King alternates between past and present (then 1958 and 1985, as opposed to 1989 and presumably 2019), while visiting the forgotten childhoods of seven souls and the mostly successful, but tortured, adults they grew into being.

In the meantime, Variety reports that Bill Skarsgaard is returning as Pennywise, the creepy clown manifestation of the title beast. Bev's husband mirrors the relationship she had with her father as a child. Andy Muschietti hasn't officially committed to helming the sequel yet, but he's expected to return. Andy Muschietti is back to direct Gary Dauberman's script. The sequel is scheduled for release on September 6, 2019.
