Iran President Hassan Rouhani arrives in Hyderabad on 3-day India visit

Irani President Hassan Rohuani, who is set to arrive in India for a two-day visit will make his first pit stop in Hyderabad. "He will land in Hyderabad on Thursday evening".

He will address a congregation at the historic Mecca Masjid in Hyderabad on Friday after offering Friday prayers, the official said, adding that religious scholars will also participate in the session. "The first part of our visit begins with Hyderabad in which we will meet Indian Muslims including Shiite and Sunni scholars".

Dr. Rouhani visited the city in 1994 when he was the Deputy Speaker of the Parliament and National Security Adviser.

From Persian Gulf nation The President of the Islamic Republic of Iran, Hassan Rouhani will pay a state visit to India at the invitation of the Prime Minister Narendra Modi from February 15 to 17, the press release from the website of Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) said on Wednesday.

President Hassan Rouhani said that officials of the two countries will examine development of relations in areas like economy, culture, communications and information technology, healthcare, industry and agriculture, IRNA news agency reported February 15.

Citing the Iran president's deputy chief of staff for communications and information Parviz Esmaeili, Irna said following the delegation-level talks on Saturday, both sides will sign a number of agreements. He is also scheduled to visit the Salar Jung Museum on Friday.

India and Iran will be hoping to iron out several issues particularly the slow progress on the Chabahar Port which Iran feels has got stuck due to U.S. pressure on countries and the latest set of sanctions on Iran.

The first phase of the port was inaugurated by President Rouhani in December a year ago, a little over a month after the first consignment of wheat from India to Afghanistan was sent via this facility.

He went on to say one of the main bilateral issues between Iran and India is transit system which will be discussed during his visit to India.

Modi had paid a state visit to Iran in May 2016.

Iran is India's third oil supplier.
